Every year on July 16, communities across the country observe National Latinx Older Adults HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the unique experiences, healthcare challenges, and resilience of older Hispanic and Latino adults living with HIV.

Spearheaded by the Latino Commission on AIDS, this national observance encourages healthcare providers, community organizations, advocates, and policymakers to address disparities in HIV prevention, treatment, and long-term care while promoting healthy aging and equitable access to healthcare.

At Primary Care at Home, Inc. (PCAHI), this day closely aligns with our mission of providing compassionate, community-based care that meets people where they are—especially older adults living with HIV.

HIV and Aging: A Growing Conversation

Thanks to advancements in HIV treatment, people living with HIV are living longer, healthier lives than ever before. Today, many adults diagnosed decades ago are aging successfully, while others are receiving new HIV diagnoses later in life.

As individuals age, they may face additional health concerns, including chronic medical conditions, medication management, social isolation, mental health challenges, and barriers to accessing culturally responsive healthcare. For many Hispanic and Latino older adults, language, stigma, and health inequities can further complicate access to the care and support they deserve.

Recognizing these realities is an important step toward creating healthcare systems that are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of every community.

Supporting Healthy Aging Through Compassionate Care

At PCAHI, we believe healthy aging begins with accessible healthcare, trusted relationships, and whole-person support.

Our team is committed to providing services that help individuals living with HIV maintain their health, independence, and quality of life through comprehensive, patient-centered care. From medical case management and HIV care coordination to wellness services and community outreach, we strive to ensure every participant feels supported throughout their healthcare journey.

Reducing Stigma, Building Community

Awareness days like National Latinx Older Adults HIV/AIDS Awareness Day are an opportunity not only to educate but also to celebrate the strength and resilience of older adults living with HIV.

By encouraging open conversations, reducing stigma, and increasing access to testing, treatment, and supportive services, we can help ensure that every person has the opportunity to age with dignity, respect, and the care they deserve.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

PCAHI proudly stands with the Latino Commission on AIDS and organizations across the country in recognizing National Latinx Older Adults HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

Together, we can continue building healthier communities by expanding access to care, supporting healthy aging, and honoring the experiences of older adults whose voices continue to shape the future of HIV care.
